The Black Place

Written by Kate Douglas & Chloe Treat

THE BLACK PLACE is a ghost story about hunger, legacy and what it means to disappear inside another person through service. It tells the story of two women with radically different experiences of the world: an older painter packing up her home after her husband's death, and the young, aspiring writer she has hired to help her do it. Each woman judges the other for the path she walks and struggles to find common ground with the other. Through their voices, we explore the wounds women inherit: what do we reap from what our ancestors have sown? How can someone become a ghost by burying her aspirations inside of another person? Can we ever be free of the past?
